The Green Cheek Conure (GCC) comes in various colors. The Cinnamon, Normal, Pineapple, Turquoise and Yellow-Sided Conure are all the same type of bird, known as the Green Cheek - they are just different color variations. The Green Cheek Conures are considered to be the quietest Conures. I can tell you from personal experience that they are a lot quieter than the Sun Conure.

GCCs love water, and will enjoy getting in a shallow bowl and taking a bath. Be warned, they will get wet, the walls will get wet, anything and everything in the immediate are will get wet!

Conures love to snuggle under and in things. Snuggle toys are highly recommended for a single bird. You will find a great source for these under Toys.

Conures love to hang up side down a lot! A lot of people consider them to be little acrobats as they will climb all over the place and hang in ways you never thought possible. Watching their acrobatic antics can be very entertaining.

Toys. Toys, toys, toys, and more toys are needed for a Conure. Toys are meant to be shredded, chewed, pulled apart, and basically demolished. They provide exercise, help with boredom, stimulate, and provide enjoyment for your bird. Conures need entertainment as they get bored very easily. Toys are a great way to occupy them and satisfy their inquisitive side.

Conures do not like to sleep in an open cage. They like to have a box or hut to sleep in, so you will need to provide one for them. You will find a great source for sleeping tents on the toys page.

Conures use their beak as a third foot when stepping up or climbing. This can startle a new bird owner who thinks that the bird is getting ready to bite them. It is important that you do not pull your hand away when they beak you.

Conures are very flock oriented. When you bring a Conure home you become his family, and he needs his family/flock time. They do not do well being left alone in a cage for days. They need daily time with their family.

Attention: Conures are known to sleep on their back with their feet up in the air, many owners have thought that their bird was dead upon seeing them in this position. Don't panic, look at their body and see if they are breathing before disturbing their nap.

Conures are known for being stubborn and require consistency. The old adage of give them and inch and they take a foot applies to the Conure. Time outs, covering their cage are acceptable forms of discipline. Never yell at or hit a bird!
